HERB DINTAMAN - Coach, Administration - 1954-1990

Herb Dintaman was a former football and basketball coach at UD and later the Director of Facilities at UD arena for 20 years. Dintaman came to UD in 1954 to serve as assistant to football coach Hugh Davore. He also served as UD’s freshman basketball team from 1956-63. 

According to his Dayton Daily News obituary, “Mr. Dintaman was director of intramurals from 1963 to 1971. He was also responsible for the care of UD Fieldhouse, Baujan Field and the baseball field until he became director of facilities at UD Arena in 1971. He held that post until his retirement in 1990.”

Outside of his career at UD, Dintaman was married to his wife, Margaret. The couple had four sons; Charles, John, David, and Herbert II, three daughters; Margaret, Betsy and Linda, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
