JOE MCLAUGHLIN - Administrator - 1957-1983

Joe McLuaghlin was one of the most loyal and devoted members of the University of Dayton family, and his first exposure to the University were in athletics. He came to UD in 1957, after serving sports editor of the Network (New Jersey) Evening News. He joined UD as sports information director, a position he held until 1966. From 1966 until 1973 he was director of general publicity and director of general publicity and director of information services. In 1974, McLaughlin became the University of Dayton’s first director of alumni relations, a position he held until 1980, when he became coordinator of alumni placement. He worked for the University in this capacity, assisting Dayton alumni with job placement throughout the country until his death in 1983.

It is difficult to put into words Joe McLaughlin’s worth to the University of Dayton Athletic scene because what he was could not be measured in yards, points or wins and losses. He was a “people” person, and an inspiration to the student-athletes he came in contact with by example he set.
