STEVE KELLER - Football 1989-92

Steve Keller graduated from the University of Dayton as the school's most prolific passer, with four career and three single-season records to his credit. But perhaps more impressive were the wins the teams he was on accumulated.

Keller was part of teams that were a combined 47-3-1 and played in the NCAA Division III playoffs all four seasons. UD won the NCAA Division III national title in 1989 and placed second in 1991. If it weren't for a major knee injury suffered by Keller in the first half of that 1991 Stagg Bowl, it could have very easily been Dayton holding up the national championship trophy rather than Ithaca.

Even though the college game and more to the point, the Dayton offense has changed to a far more pass-oriented attack, Keller remains a fixture in the Flyer football record books. He is second in career passing yardage (3,756) and passes completed (273), third in TD passes (31), and fourth in total offense (3,974).

He is also third in single-season passing (2,316 yards) and single-season completions (163), and fifth in single-season total offense (2,460), all in 1991.

Keller's numbers are even more impressive when it is factored in that he accumulated his numbers is just two seasons. He played behind a Hall of Fame QB in his own right in Dan Sharley as a freshman and sophomore, limited to running plays in mop-up duty until he took over as a starter and threw his first collegiate pass in 1991.

Just the second two-time football MVP in UD history, Keller was 23-2 as a starting quarterback.

Keller is a Sales & Underwriting Manager for John J. & Thomas R. Schiff & Co., Inc., a privately owned insurance firm in his hometown of Cincinnati.
