CHUCK NOLL - Football - 1949-1953

Charles Henry Noll started to make a name for himself when he earned all-state accolades for Benedictine High school, located in Cleveland, at running back and tackle.  His high school achievements, which included three varsity letters in football, two in track and one in wrestling, earned him a football scholarship to The University of Dayton.  At UD, he was the captain of the 1952 team as well as the 1951 Salad Bowl team which was the programs first and only trip to a division 1 bowl game.  He played linebacker on defense every season while playing full back early on before switching to guard later in his career due to injury.

After his time at UD where he studied education, science and math, he was drafted by the browns in 1953 only to retire in 1959 at which point he began to coach.  Early on in his career he had stints with both the San Diego Chargers and the Baltimore Colts before taking a head coaching job with the Pittsburgh Steelers, a position that had recently been declined by Joe Paterno.  Once Noll got to Pittsburgh in 1969 he would become the leader of a dynasty still recognized to this day as one of the best in NFL history.  Before he retired in 1991, the Steelers won 202 games while only losing 146.

What Noll is most famous for is being the only coach to win four Super Bowls, all four of which were with the Steelers.  In 1993, he was inducted in to the NFL Hall of Fame.
