GORDY HATTON - Men's Basketball - 1961-1964

Gordy Hatton was small by college basketball standards, standing at 6 foot 1 and weighing in at 185 pounds.  However, he had the fortitude of a lion that played on the National Cash Register team in the Dayton AAU league.  He scored 236 points in 20 games which averaged out to be 13.6 points per game.

Gordy was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers after his senior year, but Uncle Sam drafted him as well and he had to report to his camp on September 12th, two days before the 76ers camp.

Coach Blackburn said he wasn’t good enough out of High School, so Gordy took two years off to work and train.  This training paid off seeing as he is one of only a handful of players to score more than 1000 points in a UD uniform.  Some of his achievements include a NIT championship in the 1961-62 season, a honorable mention for the All-American Squad in 1963.  He also won MVP of the 1962-63 team where he averaged 15.2 ppg.
