SUSANNE FINKE SCHILLER - Women's Basketball, Field Hockey, Softball - 1953-1957
Mrs. Schiller was a 1957 graduate of the University of Dayton with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. In the 1950’s women’s athletics was on very firm ground even though the two major teams, Field Hockey and Basketball played limited schedules of approximately seven season games. Susan’s individual accomplishments are evident in Intercollegiate Field Hockey. She had the ability to play on the forward line and also in the defensive backfield. Susan was chosen to represent the University as a member of the Miami Valley Field Hockey Team that played on the regional level in the Great Lakes Field Hockey Tournament. Susan was chosen to be apart of the Great Lakes team which played at the national tournament.
In 1955 Susan was selected to the All-Star Team of the Miami Valley Field Hockey Association. Along with her outstanding ability as a Field Hockey player Susan was also an outstanding basketball player. The 1956 Women’s Intercollegiate Basketball Team posted a 7-0-1 record with Susan leading the team in scoring in seven of the eight games. When not on the field or court Mrs. Schiller found time to serve as President of the Women’s Athletic Association and Co-Chairman of the Committee for Coeducational Intramural Athletics.
