JIM STANGLE - Football 1967-69
Jim Stangle was a three-year starter at offensive tackle for the Flyer football team from 1967-69, opening holes for now fellow Hall of Famers Gary Kosins, Bernie Kress, Billy Mayo, and Mike Wilson.
Originally from Dayton, and a graduate of Alter High School, Stangle was a linchpin on teams for coach John McVay.Â
As a senior, he was named the winner of the White-Allen Most Valuable Player Award. He is one of just nine offensive linemen to be named team MVP in UD football. He also played in the East-West Shrine All-Star game in San Francisco.
Stangle was also named the University's Outstanding Student-Athlete as a senior and served as president of the Monogram Club.
As a junior, Stangle was the recipient of the John L. Macbeth Memorial Scholar-Athlete.Â
Stangle's two sons, Matt and Ryan, played football for the Flyers under Hall of Fame coachÂ
Mike Kelly in the 1990's. His brother Tom was a standout offensive lineman, also at UD, from 1963-66.
