Rick Chamberlin came to UD from Springfield, Ohio where he attended Springfield North High School. In High School, Chamberlin was a three time all city selection and Springfield Player of the year as a senior.

At UD Chamberlin earned his degree in Health and Physical Education and then went on to get his master’s degree in Counselor Education. 

While earning his degree, Chamberlin is credited with having 385 tackles. During his junior and senior year he lead the Flyers in tackles with 115 in his junior year and 121 tackles in his senior year. He was the first two time winner of the Chief Toscani Hitter Award. In 1978 Chamberlin was a part of the UD’s first NCAA Division III playoff team. Chamberlin was the third Dayton Flyers player and first defensive player to be named First team All American.

After graduating from UD, Chamberlin would work for the Flyers football staff as their linebacker coach and then as the defensive coordinator. 

On January 23, 2008, Rick Chamberlin was named as the 23rd head football coach of the Dayton Flyers.
