DON MAY - Men's Basketball - 1964-1968 

Don May was born on January 3, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio. May came to the University of Dayton
from Dayton, Ohio where he played high school basketball at Belmont High. May was a 6’4
forward, and he was able to gain 3 letters while playing basketball for UD.
While at UD, he was a two time Second Team All American forward. Don May was able to
score his thousandth point against the UD basketball team rival Xavier on February 1, 1964.
Overall, May was able to score 1,980 points over his years playing at UD.
May was able to average 22 points per a game, with 510 free throws and had 735 field goals
while at UD. Don May was also the star of the Flyer team that ended up losing in the national
championship to UCLA.

After graduating from UD in 1968, May went on to play seven seasons in the NBA. He was first
drafted by the New York Knickerbockers in the third round as an overall 30 th pick. May would
have to the chance to play for other teams such as: New York Knicks, Buffalo Braves, Atlanta
Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, and Kansas City – Omaha Kings. In his professional career, May
would average 8.8 points per a game.

May is also a part of the University of Dayton’s All Century Team and this can be attributed to
the fact that he holds the record for most free throws made and most free throws attempted in a
single season.
