GEORGE JANKY - Men's Basketball - 1967-1970

George Janky was born on April 22, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois. Weighing 225 pounds and 6’8 tall he became a UD basketball player, a center, from 1967-1970. As a senior, he won The White Allen Most Valuable Player from Don Donoher’s Squad, with a leading score of 437 points, and an average of 16.2 ppg. In 1969, he was ranked first in fall drills, helping the flyers to gain a record of 42-16, plus the NIT championship in 1968. He was ranked 272 out of 452. His coach says, “George is a most unselfish player who has made great personal sacrafices such as losing 30 pounds in the course of a summer.” It helped his mobility and he went from 255 pounds to 225 pounds. He also gained a four year scholarship to UD.

After college, he was selected in to the NBA draft by the Portland ball club in 1970.
