Don Lane was born on November 20th, 1936 in Bronx, New York. He played for the University of Dayton starting in 1955 and ending in 1958 with points adding up to 754 just in three seasons. As a senior co-captain along Bucky Bockhorn’s side, they ended up with a 24-4 record and losing to Xavier in the NIT. In 57-58 he received many awards: First-team All Catholic, All-American, First-Team NIT, Honorable Mention: United Press, Second-Team INS All-Ohio, and three varsity letters, Outstanding playmaker and ball handler. He was then selected in 1958 to the East-West All-Stars (MSG).

After UD, he was named head basketball coach for Lima Central Catholic High School, and assisted in football and baseball as a teacher in Physical Education and History. As a head coach he has a record overall of 46-38 with the best season record of 15-8 in 1961. He now has four children with his wife Joyce Hagans, Doug, Dan, Christi, and David.
