VIRGINIA MACMILLAN VARGA - Women's basketball, Field Hockey, Volleyball, Softball - 1947-1951

During her time at UD Virginia played basketball, field hockey, Softball, and volleyball and was a extremely good athlete here at UD. She attended the University from 1947-1951 and played four sports and participated in all of the Intramural sports offered by the Women’s Athletic Association. Despite being very busy she was the leader of the Women’s athletic association. In 1949 she was a Central Ohio Field Hockey Association Honorable Mention.  In 1950 she was on the C.O.F.H.A. All-Star Team, and was the 1950 Field hockey team captain. In 1951she was named to the C.O.F.H.A. All-star team, and Tri-State Regional All-star team. She was involved with Intercollegiate pool matches also. Her women’s Athletic Association Activities were such as;1949 Secretary, 1950 vice-president, 1951 President, and a 1951 Convention Delegate to the Athletic Federation of Ohio College Women.  

She graduated from UD with a degree in Education.  She founded the Gloria Dei Montessori School in Dayton, the second in Ohio in the 1960’s. She was given a honorary degree by UD in 1999. She went on to be one of the most renowned people in the city of Dayton during the 1960’s, for her works with the Montessori School. After College she continued to play tennis and was ranked as high as the #1 player in the Montgomery Country Senior Division.  She was also involved with a weekly Volleyball league, and continued to ski in Sugarcreek.
