BERNARD "BENO" KEITER - Men's Basketball and Track - 1938-1942
 

Beno was a three year starter in both football and basketball. His skill in football was recognized by being selected to the All Ohio College team as an end and a kicker. He was honored and inducted into the first University of Dayton Hall of Fame class.

He served as a United States Marine Captain during World War II and the Korean War. He remained in the marine reserves and held the rank of Colonel, at the time of his death. Also he briefly worked in General Motors after World War II and served as a probation officer before being elected Sheriff of Montgomery County. Were he was the first sheriff to implement civil service protection for his employees. Beno served as President of both the Ohio Sheriff Association and the National Sherriff Associations. He got marry and had two daughters Karen and Kathleen. Sadly, with a bright political future ahead he pass away at the age of 57.
