AUGIE CABRINHA - Football and Track - 1923-1927
Augie was born in Honolulu, HI on April 13, 1902. He went to high school in St. Louis and attended The University of Dayton for college. Augie, nicknamed “Cabby” played halfback for the Flyers from 1924-1927. Augie was a great broken field runner, a great reciever, and the
fastest player on the team. Being only 155 pounds, Augie used his blazing speed to lead the Flyers in rushing for 3 years. As reported in the Daytonian of 1925, Augie was responsible for the most exciting play of the year, a 67 yard touchdown run. In 1926, Augie led the team in rushing as well as rushing touchdowns.
After college Augie went undrafted and joined the Dayton Triangles for one year. Augie was the first Hawaiian born player to play professional football. He Played Wingback for the Dayton Triangles in 1927. He played three games but did not acquire any stats. Augie was inducted into the University of Dayton Athletic Hall of Fame in 1974.
