BILL SAHND – Football 1975-78

Bill Sahnd was key leader in the most important transitional periods in University of Dayton football history.  A starter and award-winning lineman on Dayton's last scholarship team in 1976, Sahnd stepped up for the Flyers during the change to non-scholarship football, embraced the teachings of a brand-new coaching staff and led UD to its first playoff appearance in 1978.

Sahnd was named the winner of the University's Stan Kurdziel Memorial Trophy, which goes to the team's outstanding lineman, as a sophomore in 1976.  He then earned the award again, along with the White Allen Most Valuable Player Award as a senior in 1978.

The Flyers reached the NCAA Division III playoffs that season, and Sahnd is the only MVP of any Flyer playoff team who was an offensive lineman.

He was a team captain in 1978 with teammates Mike Bailey and former Flyer head coach Rick Chamberlin.

Sahnd is the fourth player who solely played offensive line to be named to the University of Dayton Athletic Hall of Fame.  He was also just the third Flyer O-lineman to be named team MVP, the seventh two-time winner of the Kurdziel Most Outstanding Lineman Award and the only player to be named a Kurdziel recipient as a sophomore.

Bill works for General Electric as an account manager selling high-voltage electrical equipment, and lives near Cleveland in Bay Village, Ohio.
