LOUIS MAHRT - Men's Basketball, Football and Baseball - 1922-1926

Hailing from the sunshine state, Lou called Florida home until he moved to Ohio for high school.  It was at Dayton Prep High School that Lou began to make an impact on the gridiron.  Standing at a powerful 5’11’’ and weighing 178 lbs, Lou was heavily recruited to come to the University of Dayton.  It was at UD where Lou was a four year letterman and made quite the impact for the Flyers in the early 1900’s while taking snaps under center.  He was elected as team captain in his senior campaign, and he lead the Flyers much like his brothers Alph, Armin, and John. This was said in the Dayton year book, “Without a doubt Lou was the greatest captain a Red and Blue team has ever had and his record of having played in every game during his four years on the squad is an envious and unequalled one. A keen student of the game, cool-headed at all times and one of the best punt returners to grace a Flyer squad for some years past, make his football career at Dayton a history of one outstanding performance after another. This last and baby of the famous Mahrt family will be sorely missed in the '26 campaign."

Following his tenure at UD, Marht moved on to play 2 seasons with the Dayton Triangles, one as a quarterback, and his final season as a player-coach.  He played in 8 professional games, with 8 starts in these games.
