Negele was born in Detroit, MI on March 6, 1967. While at Dayton, Knight was known for his quickness and was named an honorable mention All-American his senior season after averaging 22.8 points per game and shooting 50.3% from the field.

Following his time at Dayton, he was selected by the Phoenix Suns 31st overall in the 1990 NBA draft. He played for six seasons in the NBA with his best year coming in 1993-94 when he averaged 9.3 ppg as a member of the San Antonio Spurs.
